THE LIBRARY

The Society is fortunate in having had its own premises for some 40 years which has allowed it, in contrast to the majority of local history societies in Ireland, to establish a dedicated library. In the course of compiling the conservation plan for Rothe House in 2001/2002 the consultants recorded that the library and associated archive are of unique national significance.

The library is a private Society resource, and because of its importance is open only under supervised conditions to members and non-members alike. Staffed opening is provided by library volunteers at the following times:

Morning

Afternoon

Evening
Tuesday   2.30 to 4.30 By appointment
Wednesday 10.30 to 12.30
Saturday   2.30 to 4.30

As unforeseen circumstances may arise, and if your visit to the library involves a journey, you may wish to check beforehand that the library will be open.
Access to the library may be made available at other times by arrangement with the Hon. Librarian (contact details below).
When visiting the library for the first time please read the Library rules.

ACCESS
If visiting the library when Rothe House is not open to the public you should use the intercom by the door to contact the library.
The library is located in the second storey of the house, up two flights of stairs.

Photocopies can be made of suitable material at a charge of 15 cents for A4.

Copies may be made from microfilm at a charge of 25 cents for A4.

CONTENTS.
It is hoped that the whole of the library catalogue may be made available on-line in due course. In the meantime listings are being prepared to indicate the general extent of holdings in various categories:

County Histories. Family Histories.
Town & Village Histories. Gravestone Inscriptions.
Directories. Great Famine.
Serials. Maps.
Newspapers. Reference Works.

GUIDES.
Information sheets are being prepared for those pursuing some of the more common aspects of historical research in the county. These will be included on this site as available.
